Does your family live on the boat year round? I'm a little envious of boat living, have you guys gone on many sailing expeditions? I'm totally enthralled with boat living. :D
We just moved aboard 4 months ago, but we plan on living here year round.
We haven't been out sailing, yet. In fact, we don't know how to sail!! We are planning on learning, and set sail in a few years for wherever we want to go. Probably Mexico first, and then I really want to go to South America.
We are in Portland, Oregon, and specifically on Hayden Island.
I learned about families living aboard when I came across this blog. As soon as I read about what that family is doing, I realized it was totally US, and we had to do it. We were unhappy in our home and the life we were living. I knew I wanted to live more simply, be able to travel, and generally just have the time and energy to do and be who we wanted to be. Instead of working so hard to live in a place that we hated, and all the while, never getting anywhere by doing so.
Yes, the weekends are easier for me to be clean and presentable, since Brian is there :) Otherwise, I'm a little more frazzled, and the boat is full of crumbs and the dishes sit around plaguing me.
My Aunt and Uncle live on their boat, have done so for about 15 years and LOVE it. It's lots of work but so worth it. Your family is adorable! And I thought I recognized that weather...I'm in Portland too!
Awesome DITL. I was hoping for more info on your life aboard!! Looks like an awesome day. And... THAT'S MY CAT! :) That was pretty cool to see Aristaeus featured in your DITL.
seems like you live a charmed life! can't imagine spending winter on a sailboat, unless i sailed down to Caribbean.. hope you learn how to sail. I fantasize about doing that someday.
Yes, we're very lucky to be able to be here. It's something that we wanted for quite awhile.
Winter - yeah. We'll see how we fair. Luckily, our winters here are pretty mild compared to most places. I'm hoping that by being so close to the outdoors, we will acclimate easier to the cold weather once it arrives.
And then once we learn, yes we can definitely leave for awhile and enjoy warmer weather elsewhere :D
Hi I found your blog through ZachAboard and followed you here...nice ditl. My fav pic is your son in the knee pads, helmet and life jacket (whodathunkit?) Anyway, great family. Wishing you the best...i'm certainly jealous. I just starting following zachaboard and totally want to live on a boat now!!
